Sports, Arts, Culture

Sport Opportunities

Glenfield Primary is traditionally very strong in sports and we believe it is important to offer our students a variety of activities. We encourage them to become involved in a number of sports and to ‘have a go’.

Opportunities are made for students to participate in rippa rugby, touch rugby, miniball, netball, soccer, swimming, cross country, athletics, volley ball, orienteering and cricket.

We are part of the Glenfield Sports Cluster which provides professional development for teachers and seasonal interschool competition.

We are fortunate to still have a school pool and weather permitting, our swimming programme operates from December to March. Skills for Life instructors teach swimming to Year 0-6 children during February and teachers take follow up classes.

Classroom teachers take PE lessons each week to help develop motor skills and fitness, and trained instructors also support our PE programme by comign to school to deliver skills based programmes building towards particular sports.

The Performing Arts

Glenfield Primary has a dedicated performing arts curriculum it delivers to all students weekly.  Once a week all students from Years 2-6 attend our Dance, Drama and Music programme delivered by our Specialist Arts Teacher.

It doesn’t end there – we offer multiple opportunities for the arts by way of our Kapa Haka and Pasifika Groups, “GPS Has Got Talent” shows, productions, weekly assembly performances and more.

Celebrating Culture

At Glenfield Primary, we are incredibly proud to be a vibrant melting pot of cultures from all corners of the world! This rich diversity is our greatest strength, making GPS a truly unique and exciting place to learn and grow. Inclusion is at the very heart of everything we do. We believe that every child, regardless of their background, brings something special to our school community. We celebrate our differences and learn from each other, fostering an environment where everyone feels valued, respected, and has a strong sense of belonging.

Our commitment to inclusion is beautifully showcased through our strong connection to Māori culture. All GPS students participate in weekly Kapa Haka lessons with a specialist tutor, embracing the power and beauty of traditional Māori performing arts. We also dedicate time to learning Te Reo me ngā tikanga Māori (the Māori language and customs), ensuring that our students develop a deep appreciation for the indigenous culture of Aotearoa New Zealand.

Come and experience the warmth and vibrancy of our global family at Glenfield Primary School, where every culture is celebrated and every child is included!
